Born in London in 1962, Julia Hamilton received a BA Hons in English and Fine Art from Exeter University in 1983, a Post-Graduate Diploma in Printmaking from Central St Martins in 1995 and her Fine Art Painting BA Hons from City and Guilds in 2002. She lives and works in London.

'As experience is increasingly mediated and abstracted, the lived relation of the body to the phenomenological world is replaced by a nostalgic myth of contact and presence.’ (Susan Stewart, On Longing) I am looking at significant personal objects, what they mean to me and how I can convey my feelings to the viewer of the work. What is inside a teddy bear that I have loved? Do the pearls of my grandmother hold a secret? And does a tiny dictionary hold a key to understanding my father now that he has gone?
