Robert Bell has worked in the field of architectural visualisation for seven years, specialising in 3D computer modelling and digital animation. Alongside this practice he has taught these subjects on university degree level design courses, establishing close links with other centres of digital representation and fabrication technologies.

It is a sense of a possible or restricted transition between two imagined spaces that I am interested in creating in my artwork. Through the construction of intensely shallow spaces, made of architectural elements and their surface qualities, I aim to represent personal emotional body states and internal fears and desires. My practice explores the surface of a painting as a threshold to be built up and worked back into in an archaeological manner, revealing a history of time spent in the studio while making the viewer aware of the act of painting as a process of pre-determined decision making and of an acceptance of the outcome of unconscious action.
