Polly Bagnall is a psychotherapist and painter. Her current practice integrates painting, performance and dance, often collaborating with artists from other disciplines. She runs workshops on accessing the individual’s creativity. Polly lives and works in London.

‘Can You See Me?’ focuses on gesture - the trace of a gesture made through the movement of the body. ‘The gesture is essentially always a gesture of not being able to figure something out in language.’ (Giorgio Agamben, Notes on Gesture) I use my body in a performative, gestural way to inform or make the marks. What cannot be expressed is of equal interest to what can be. Gaps, wiping out, erasure and trace elements communicate this absence. I play with the ambivalence between the need to communicate and the need to be seen: a transition from painting a subject to becoming the subject. This is manifest further through performing in front of the camera.
